Book Read: Tallgrass

The book is about a 13 year old girl living in a small town called Ellis in California. During this time Japanese internment camps were being constructed around the United States. One of these camps, called Tallgrass, was built just outside Ellis. Throughout the story the Japanese families that live at Tallgrass are forced to put up with the prejudice coming from those living in Ellis against them moving to live there even though it wasn't their choice in the first place. Suddenly a young girl is brutally murdered in Ellis, and most of the people living in the town blame one of the Japanese for their loss. Only the main character, Rennie, and her family believe that it could have been anyone, and not just a Japanese person. In fact, her family are the only people in town who hire some people from Tallgrass to help on their farm. With the help of the town sherif and her family, Rennie attempts to unearth the truth about who really killed little Susan Reddick. 

Overall, I really like this book because it wasn't too historical, and it didn't focus too much on the interment camps. The only thing I would have changed is how the reader isn't able to figure out the mystery. There are no clues a person could pick up on because the book never changes perspective to another character who does posses the necessary information. The only clues presented are ones regarding an additional two mysteries within Ellis. Tallgrass was very well written book as well as one with very vivid setting that described the little details that assisted it so it seemed even more realistic.

I read Ten Thing I Hate About Me. The book is about a girl name Jamilah. Jamilah is a Muslim girl who goes to a stereotypical school. She tries to hide her identity. Jamilah's dad is overprotective since her mom died he has become more strict. Jamilah's friend want to go to a party on Saturday and she know s that her father will not let her but because a boy ask her she says she is going and cancels at last minute. She feel as if her father has double standards. The Monday after the party she feels that she and her friends are not close. Jamilah teacher assigns her class a project and she is paired with the kid that nobody talks to and gets picked on by the most popular boy and Jamilah trues mitt make fun if anybody or get picked on. Jamilah also make a new cyber friend.

I read another 3 hours. In my book Ken finds the colt he wants and tells his father that it is Flicka his father doesn't know what he is talking about Ken explains that it is Rocket's foal, and his father doesn't like this. (Rocket and her ancestors and her children are crazy and untameable)  not so long after someone came to buy a few horses and Ken's father (Rob) tells him how fast Rocket and her foals are so after some proof the man buy all of Rockets line except for Flicka.

I read 5 more hours. The first 3 hours was when I was reading Dork Diaries: Tales from a Not so Talented Pop-star. The Halloween dance is over, and Nikki is on her crush Brandon’s radar.  Mean girl Mackenzie is someone that she can contend with.  And now, the next bit of drama begins. Bugs are invading the school, and Nikki is afraid people will learn the truth – that she’s a scholarship student. Her father arranged the scholarship because he’s the school’s exterminator.  As Nikki meddles so the truth won’t come out, she thinks she’s lost the scholarship and has to pay a huge tuition bill!  Her solution…. to enter the school’s talent contest. One of the prizes is a scholarship to the school. But mean girl Mackenzie doesn’t want Nikki to succeed and tries to block her in every way. 

The last 2 hours I was reading Amelia Hits The Road. Amelia documents her travels all around the US. She talked about how annoying her sister is and how cool some of the attractions are.

I've read 5 hours and 5 different books. The first and second hours I read to my little sisters and brother. The book was called The Gingerbread Man. This book is about an old man and an old woman who make a gingerbread cookie in the shape of a man. The gingerbread man comes to life and runs out of the house yelling "Run, run as fast as you can! You can't catch me, I'm the gingerbread man." The old man, the old woman, a cow and a cat cannot catch him. He then meets a sly fox along the way and the fox convinces him to jump on his back so he can cross the river. The fox tells the gingerbread man to jump on his head so he does not get wet. The fox opens his mouth and eats the gingerbread man in one bite. The third and fourth hours I read was to my baby cousin. I read him a bunch of different types of books. I don't remember every book title I read to him but I know i few of them. The  names are The Little Engine That Could, Baby's First 100 Words, and Night Night. The last hour I read was a magazine. I want to tell about the interesting article I read. The article was in French. I took french class in school so I knew some of the words. The words I didn't know I looked up. The article was about a 1 level house that had 1 bathroom, kitchen, 1 bedroom, and a living room. The story was very amazing.
