The Eye of the World blogged by Andrew W.
I would estimate the time I spent reading to number around 15 hours.
I read a variety of things, including the moody A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness (inspired by Siobhan Dowd), as well as newspapers in several towns I went through (including Moab, Utah and Jackson Hole, Wyoming), but the most striking book has been The Eye of the World by Robert Jordan. This is, I'm told, Book One of Jordan's The Wheel of Time series, and it is a very promising first book. Jordan is a heavy fantasy writer along the lines of J.R.R. Tolkien, and has created quite an intriguing fantasy world. The prologue introduces us to magically-induced madness and the "Breaking of the World" caused by a struggle between two supernatural entities, the Dragon and the Dark One. Flash-forward several ages, and the story follows a young man named Rand al'Thor and his buddies goofing around in their isolated farm village, which is preparing for its yearly Bel Tine festival. There are strange guests arriving in town, including a "gleeman" named Thom Merrilin, as well as a peculiar pair: a lady of noble status calling herself Moirane, and her evident bodyguard Lan. The night before the festival, the town is attacked by a band of Trollocs, led by a Myrdraal (or "Fade"), creatures the villagers had thought were only in stories. Moirane is revealed to be an Aes Sedai, a female magic-user, which causes some outrage and suspicion in the town. Rand's father is injured in the attack, but Moirane heals him, and reveals to Rand that she suspects the Trollocs were after men of his age: him and his friends, Mat and Perrin. Thus, it is for the town's safety that they all travel to Tar Valon, the city of the Aes Sedai. Rand is conflicted, but goes along with Moirane because of his gratitude. They are joined by the gleeman, Thom, as well as Rand's adventurous lady friend, Egwene. While fleeing the village, the group is pursued by an ominous "Draghkar". The group reaches the city of Baerlon, where all three young men are struck with a nightmarish lucid dream in which the Dark One himself speaks with them. The village's spiritual leader, Nynaeve, also catches up with the group and demands the youths return home. However, in Baerlon are the "Children of the Light", religious crusaders who despise the Aes Sedai and the Dark One equally; upon learning that Moirane is an Aes Sedai, they attempt to arrest the whole lot, and the group must escape again. This is as far as I've read, and I am not even halfway through.

The Ranger's Apprentice blogged by Nick M.
Reporting 13 hours on books 1,2,3,8,9,10 in the Ranger's
Apprentice Series
So, the books are basically about a boy who lives in a
fief, and is choosen to become a Ranger's apprentice. The Rangers are the
protectors of a kingdom, and the books show you the boy (Will)'s growth and his
adventures and battles as a Ranger's apprentice, and later, as a
Ranger himself. I personally enjoyed them thoroughly, and
would recommend them to anyone 10+.

The Hobbit blogged by Sidney B.
The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien
In this book there is a hobbit named Bilbo. He helps 13 dwarves and a wizard fight an evil dragon named Smaug. Smaug took over the mountain where the dwarves had lived and had stolen their treasure. To sum it all up they are trapped by goblins, wander through a forest, are trapped by elves, someone else (Bard) kills the dragon, fight the Goblins, make peace and split the treasure, and Bilbo finally goes home!

The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan
Blogged by Shea M.
I read the book The Lightning Thief. The story is about a boy named Percy Jackson. In the beginning of the story of the story Percy is just a regular kid. He has never known his dad only his mom and step-dad, Smelly Gabe. He has been kicked out of a lot of schools and has only one friend whose name is Grover. Then he finds out that he is a demigod, and he is sent to Camp Half-Blood. Chiron, the activities director at camp explains to Percy that the Greek gods are still alive and that one of them is his parent. Then Percy is claimed by his father Poseidon, the god of the sea. Percy isn't quite sure how he feels about father suddenly claiming after the 12 years his father completely ignored him, especially when Zeus's mater bolt has been stolen and Percy is now the main suspect for this crime. If Percy wants to prevent a full fledged war between the gods from breaking out then he must find the bolt and return it by the summer solstice, only days away. He is not alone on his quest though. He will be going with Annabeth, another half-blood and Grover who is apparently a satyr. Read the book to find out what will happen on their incredible journey to save the world.

Magic Under Glass by Jaclyn Dolamore
Blogged by A'Dana S.
I have been reading a book called Magic under glass it is so far about a girl Nimira is a music-hall girl who used to singing for pennies.Well, one night when Nimira, Saraki, and Polly were performing (singing) she spotted a gentlemen in the audience, he had his face turned halfway to the door like he had just slipped in for a glimpse and wouldn't stay long .Out all the faces that were watching Nimira she kept her focus on him alone. He was watching her. Hollin Parry came to to the 3 girls dressing room and had offered her to perform with piano playing automation.Nimira believes it will be the start of a better life, but when she arrives at Parry's estate, it is not the glittering worlds she expects.
I really like this book. It is like a scary book because I think Parry is haunted by his mother ever since she died in his place where he lives .
